The Agrivoltaics Team

The Initiative:

Combines photovoltaic technology with horticulture in one of our most daring projects to date. We will design, build, and implement a fully functioning agrivoltaic system on Harvard’s campus. This is one small but important part of the clean energy transition: small scale projects to improve our local community.

PHOTOXSYNTHESIS is a hybrid community garden that seeks to start a conversation about sustainable power consumption and generation. We leverage agrivoltaics, which combines solar energy production with the cultivation of native plants, to present a future where physical-digital ecosystems can exist in symbiosis.

For more information, see the project brief.

 Why Agrivoltaics?

Why not use land for both agriculture and energy production? Superimposing solar panels on crops provides needed shade for plants and extra power generation for farmers.
